Best For

  • A traditional Japanese breakfast: Tsumugi at Tsukiji Hongwanji

  • Brunch on a garden terrace: IVY PLACE or crisscross
  • A food lover's brunch: Path near Yoyogi Park

Tokyo is not an early-rising city for restaurants: many places open at 11am or later. The spots in this guide are the exceptions, opening from 7am to 9am for everything from a Buddhist temple breakfast to New York-style eggs Benedict.

This guide picks ten of the best for breakfast and brunch, split between Japanese breakfasts and Western-style brunch, with prices and tips for avoiding the long queues.

How We Chose These Places

This is an editorial selection, not a scientific or absolute ranking. We focused on places that specialise in breakfast or brunch and checked each address, menu and price against official menus and recent listings from 2025 and 2026.

The guide is compiled from published sources, not from personal visits. Prices and hours change, so check before you go.

Tsumugi

Address: Information Center, Tsukiji Hongwanji, 3-15-1 Tsukiji, Chuo-ku, Tokyo

This café inside Tsukiji Hongwanji, a Buddhist temple founded more than 400 years ago, serves Tokyo's most photographed breakfast. The 18-dish set includes rice porridge, miso soup and a tray of small seasonal dishes, eaten with a view of the temple's main hall through large windows. The number 18 refers to the 18th vow of Amida Buddha, the temple's principal deity.

Price and booking: the 18-dish breakfast costs ¥2,640, after a price rise in January 2026. Only a limited number are served each day and they often sell out by mid-morning, so reserve ahead or arrive at the 8am opening. It is a one-minute walk from Tsukiji Station, close to the Tsukiji Outer Market.

Katsuo Shokudo

Address: GranDuo Shibuya B1F, 7-12 Uguisudanicho, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo

Price and booking: the set meal costs about ¥2,200. It serves breakfast only until the day's supply runs out, usually around lunchtime, so arrive early. It is a five-minute walk from Shibuya Station.

World Breakfast Allday
