A bayfront terrace, a 1925 garden villa, a Michelin-starred room by Thomas Keller and a South Beach rooftop: nine Miami restaurants for date night, with price levels and booking tips.
A romantic dinner in Miami can mean very different things. For some couples it is a quiet table under lanterns, for others a terrace over Biscayne Bay or a rooftop where the music stays on after dessert. This guide sorts nine restaurants by the kind of evening they offer, so you can match the room to the occasion.
We have tried to be honest about atmosphere. Several places here are lively rather than hushed, and we say so, because a loud rooftop is a poor choice for an anniversary talk and a great one for a birthday night out.
This is an editorial selection, not a scientific or absolute ranking. We looked for restaurants with a clear setting, a menu worth the trip and details we could confirm from published sources such as the Michelin Guide, restaurant listings and local reporting.
The guide is compiled from published reporting, not from personal visits. Menus, prices and opening hours change often, so check current details before you book.
| Restaurant | Area | Setting | Price level | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Amara at Paraiso | Edgewater | Bayfront dining room and terrace | $$$$ | A waterfront dinner |
| La Mar by Gastón Acurio | Brickell Key | Terrace on Biscayne Bay | $$$ | Skyline views and ceviche |
| Rusty Pelican | Virginia Key | Waterfront, skyline views | Not confirmed | A view-first dinner |
| Joia Beach | Watson Island | Beach club with tables on the sand | $$$ | A relaxed, lively evening |
| Casa Tua | South Beach | 1925 villa and lantern-lit garden | $$$$ | An intimate anniversary |
| Mandolin Aegean Bistro | Buena Vista | Courtyard in a 1940s house | $$ | A casual, affordable date |
| The Surf Club Restaurant | Surfside | Formal room, tableside service | Higher-end | A milestone dinner |
| Stubborn Seed | South of Fifth | Sleek room, open kitchen | $$$$ | A tasting-menu night |
| MILA | South Beach | Rooftop with water feature | Not confirmed | A glamorous night out |
Miami's best-known romantic setting is the water. These four restaurants all face the bay, but they differ in mood, from a polished dining room to a beach club with sand underfoot.
Amara is at 3101 N.E. 7th Avenue in Edgewater, on Biscayne Bay. Chef Michael Schwartz, a James Beard Award winner known for Michael's Genuine Food & Drink, opened it in 2018. The 4,500-square-foot dining room has indoor and outdoor seating, all with water views, and floor-to-ceiling windows frame the bay.
The cooking is Latin American-inspired and built around a wood grill and a charcoal oven. Dishes that reviewers return to include crispy octopus with braised yuca, a parrillada of short rib, chorizo, sweetbreads and steak, and a seafood tower with lobster, oysters and hamachi tiradito. The wine list leans toward Argentina and Chile. Time Out rates it $$$$, so expect a higher bill than at most waterfront options.
La Mar is inside the Mandarin Oriental at 500 Brickell Key Drive and opened in 2014. The reason to come is the terrace, which sits right on Biscayne Bay with the Miami skyline in view, and Michelin notes that diners rarely choose a table indoors.
The kitchen cooks Peruvian food, from ceviche with grouper, shrimp and octopus in leche de tigre to grilled scallops with parmesan foam and lomo saltado. Some dishes are finished at the table, including arroz chaufa. The restaurant is generally listed at $$$ by Michelin, while Time Out lists it at $$$$. The hotel asks guests to dress smartly, so skip flip-flops and beachwear. The setting is lively rather than hushed.
Rusty Pelican is at 3201 Rickenbacker Causeway on Virginia Key, and opened in 1972. The dining room looks across the water toward the Miami skyline, and the restaurant also hosts weddings and events, so weekends can be busy.
The menu is contemporary American with Caribbean and Latin influences. Dishes diners mention include a three-tier seafood tower and a shared board that has featured whole fried snapper and lobster and shrimp risotto. We could not confirm a current price level from a reliable source, so check the menu before you book. Plan the drive, since the restaurant sits on the causeway.
Joia Beach is at 1111 Parrot Jungle Trail on Watson Island and opened in early 2020. It is both a restaurant and a beach club, with tables on the sand and a view across Biscayne Bay to the skyline. Michelin does not list it, and the listings we found place it at $$$.
Time Out singles out the whole grilled fish, which is cracked out of its salt crust and deboned at the table. The menu also includes a raw bar, crispy lobster tails and beef carpaccio. On weekends the club turns into a lounge after sunset, with DJ sets, so choose it for a relaxed, social evening rather than a quiet one.
If you want conversation to be easy, these two restaurants are the best fit, one at the top of the price range and one considerably cheaper.
Casa Tua is at 1700 James Avenue in South Beach, hidden behind a garden wall in a 1925 Mediterranean-style villa. The restaurant shares the building with a boutique hotel and a members' club. Inside there are several small dining rooms, a chef's table and a garden strung with lanterns, which is the area most couples request.
The kitchen cooks Northern Italian food, and past reviews have highlighted tagliolini with crème fraîche and caviar, farro risotto with lobster and pappardelle with lamb ragù. Menus change, so treat those as examples. Time Out rates it $$$$. Local guides suggest smart casual dress and say shorts and flip-flops are out of place, and reservations are recommended. Dinner only.
Mandolin is at 4312 N.E. 2nd Avenue in Buena Vista, next to the Design District. Ahmet Erkaya and Anastasia Koutsioukis opened it in 2009, and it occupies a restored 1940s house with a whitewashed courtyard, bougainvillea and mature trees.
The menu is Greek and Turkish and built around mezze. Michelin mentions baked feta with Turkish peppers, house-baked bread, moussaka and a honey pie with a salted shortbread crust, and a grilled whole fish is also a regular order. Michelin gives it a Bib Gourmand and lists it at $$, which makes it the most affordable pick here. Courtyard tables are the ones to book, since the small indoor room has often been kept for walk-ins. Tables are close together and street parking is hard, so consider the Design District garages.
The Surf Club Restaurant is inside the Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club, at 9011 Collins Avenue in Surfside. It is Thomas Keller's first Florida restaurant and holds one Michelin star. The room is built around the glamour of an earlier era, with staff in period-style uniforms and carts rolling through the dining room.
The menu is classic American and continental, and Four Seasons points to the avocado Louie, the New York strip and a Caesar salad prepared at the table. Reviewers also mention lobster thermidor and Dover sole finished tableside. We could not confirm a price symbol from a reliable source, but expect a higher-end bill. The restaurant serves dinner only.
Stubborn Seed is at 101 Washington Avenue in South of Fifth and has held a Michelin star since 2022. The room is sleek and industrial, with a glass-fronted display kitchen, so it feels energetic rather than candlelit. Michelin lists it at $$$$.
Chef Jeremy Ford, who won Top Chef season 13, runs a tasting-menu kitchen that mixes Latin and Asian influences. Michelin mentions small bites such as a celery root croquette with beef bacon jam and beef tartare with black truffle, followed by pastas like ricotta gnudi with Manchego foam. Many ingredients come from the team's farm in Redland. It suits a couple who would rather focus on the cooking than on the view.
MILA is on the rooftop at 1636 Meridian Avenue in South Beach. The deck covers about 5,000 square feet and is built around a central water feature, and the menu mixes Mediterranean and Asian cooking in shareable dishes such as grilled octopus with romesco and ribeye with yuzu kosho.
The venue describes a lively atmosphere with music and fire dancers after sunset, and it also runs a lounge, a ten-seat omakase room and a members-only space. That makes it a strong choice for a birthday or a night that continues with drinks, and a weaker one for a quiet proposal. We could not confirm a current price level, so check the menu before booking.
Amara at Paraiso, La Mar by Gastón Acurio, Rusty Pelican and Joia Beach all face the water. Amara and La Mar are the more polished options, while Joia Beach is a beach club with tables on the sand.
Mandolin Aegean Bistro, which Michelin lists at $$ and recognizes with a Bib Gourmand. The other restaurants in this guide are generally listed at $$$ or higher.
It depends on the restaurant. La Mar asks for smart dress, Casa Tua suggests smart casual and the beach-club setting at Joia Beach is more relaxed. Confirm the dress code when you book.
