best seafood restaurants in London

By AxovaEats Editorial Team Published October 15, 2026 Updated October 15, 2026

From a Mayfair institution famous for Dover sole to a Chelsea fishmonger-turned-seafood bar and a rooftop terrace in the City, here are the six seafood restaurants in the MICHELIN Guide's London selection and what to expect at each.

London is not a coastal city, but its seafood restaurants are some of the best-known in the country. The tradition runs from Victorian-era fish houses, which fed theatergoers after the show, to a fishmonger in Chelsea that turns into a seafood bar at night and a Michelin-starred rooftop in the City.

This guide covers the six seafood restaurants that the MICHELIN Guide lists in its London selection. For each one we say what it serves, where it sits in the city and how it is priced.

How We Chose These Restaurants

This is an editorial selection, not a scientific or absolute ranking. We started with the MICHELIN Guide's list of the best seafood restaurants in London and checked each restaurant's address, setting and menu against its own listings. We did not add restaurants that we could not confirm.

The guide is compiled from published reporting, not from personal visits. Menus, prices and opening hours change often, so check current details before you book.

Classic Seafood Restaurants

Two of London's best-known seafood restaurants are a short walk from the city's most glamorous streets and theaters. Both have been feeding well-dressed guests for generations.

Scott's

Scott's is at 20 Mount Street in Mayfair, and the MICHELIN Guide lists it at £££. The dining room is elegant and polished, and OpenTable describes the menu as traditional British fish and shellfish alongside meat and seasonal game. It is open daily for lunch and dinner.

The dish that guests recommend most is the Dover sole, served on the bone, followed by lobster thermidor, a seafood platter and oysters such as Jersey Rocks and Gillardeau. The crab linguine is another regular order. A minimum spend of £75 per person applies when you dine on the terrace, and groups of four or more pay a £50 per person deposit, so read the booking terms before you reserve.

J. Sheekey

J. Sheekey is at 28-32 St Martin's Court in Covent Garden and dates back to 1896. It started out catering to post-theater parties for the prime minister of the day, and the Michelin Guide lists it at £££. The restaurant is known for its ruby-red walls and a theatrical legacy.

The kitchen is known for Dover sole and shellfish, and the fish pie is one of its best-known dishes. It is a natural choice before or after a West End show, since the St Martin's Lane Hotel is two minutes away.

Modern Seafood

The Sea, The Sea

The Sea, The Sea is at 243 Pavilion Road in Chelsea, and the Michelin Guide lists it at £££. It is a fishmonger by day and a seafood bar by night, and the restaurant shares its name with an Iris Murdoch novel. There is a second location in Hackney.

The Chelsea branch is small and intimate, with a terrace bar and a chef's table, which makes it a better fit for a couple or a small group than for a large party. Because the kitchen works with fish sold at the counter, the menu follows what has arrived that day.

Angler

Angler is at 3 South Place, on the top floor of the South Place Hotel on the edge of the City. Chef Gary Foulkes leads a Michelin-starred kitchen, and the restaurant is the most expensive on this list, at ££££ in the MICHELIN Guide. A 40-seat west-facing roof terrace looks out over the City.

The menu focuses on British fish, with dishes such as Cornish turbot with scallop-stuffed courgette and Dorset crab with bouillabaisse sauce, depending on the season. It is the right choice for a celebration or a business dinner that needs to impress.

Tom Brown at The Capital

Tom Brown at The Capital is at 22-24 Basil Street in Knightsbridge. Chef Tom Brown returned in 2025 to The Capital Hotel, where his reputation was first established while working under the seafood chef Nathan Outlaw, after running his own restaurant, Cornerstone, in Hackney. The MICHELIN Guide lists it at £££ and calls the dining room intimate and immaculate.

The focus is on seafood and prime ingredients, from turbot with a range of courgettes to a cuttlefish cacio e pepe. Michelin notes that the cooking is a little more classical than at Cornerstone but keeps the chef's playfulness. It suits a discreet lunch or a celebratory dinner.

Italian-Style Seafood

Olivomare

Olivomare is at 10 Lower Belgrave Street in Belgravia, and the MICHELIN Guide lists it at £££. It is a Sardinian seafood restaurant that pairs fish and shellfish with Italian wines, and COMO The Halkin, a hotel recognized by Michelin, is nearby.

It is the best choice on this list if you prefer Mediterranean flavors to a classic British fish house. Check the current menu for specials, since the kitchen follows what arrives from the market.
