Best Pizza in New York

By AxovaEats Editorial Team Published October 12, 2026 Updated October 12, 2026

From the Lower East Side's top-ranked Neapolitan pizzeria to Williamsburg slices, Upper West Side squares and a cash-only Brooklyn brick oven, here is where to eat pizza in New York and what to expect.

New York does not have one pizza style, it has several, and each has its own devoted following. There is Neapolitan pizza baked in minutes at very high heat, thin slices folded in half, thick Sicilian squares and brick-oven pies that sell out their dough every night. The 2026 50 Top Pizza guide covered 116 pizzerias in 29 states, and New York was the most represented state with 27 entries, 24 of them in New York City.

This guide covers six pizzerias that represent those styles, from the Lower East Side's top-ranked Neapolitan pizzeria to a Brooklyn brick oven that takes cash only. For each one we explain what makes it worth the trip and how to get in.

How We Chose These Pizzerias

This is an editorial selection, not a scientific or absolute ranking. We started with the 2026 50 Top Pizza rankings for the United States and for slice shops, then added Time Out's and The Infatuation's pizza coverage and each restaurant's own listings. We chose pizzerias with distinct styles, so you can match the pie to the moment.

The guide is compiled from published reporting, not from personal visits. Menus, prices and opening hours change often, so check current details before you go.

Neapolitan Pizza

Two of New York's most respected Neapolitan pizzerias sit in very different parts of the city, one on the Lower East Side and one near Times Square.

Una Pizza Napoletana

Una Pizza Napoletana is at 175 Orchard Street on the Lower East Side. Anthony Mangieri has been making pizza under the name since 1996, and the restaurant has moved and been redesigned several times. The current room is candlelit and was remodeled, and The Infatuation counts it as the sixth version of the pizzeria.

In 2026 it ranked No. 1 in the United States on the 50 Top Pizza list for the fifth consecutive year, in a year that marks its 30th anniversary. It also placed No. 2 in the world, behind a London pizzeria called Napoli on the Road. It is open only Thursday through Saturday, and reservations are released two weeks ahead at 9 a.m., according to The Infatuation. Complex describes it as the best version of the pizzeria yet, and the price level is $$.

Don Antonio

Don Antonio is at 309 West 50th Street in Midtown, a short walk from Times Square and the theater district. Giorgia Caporuscio, who comes from a Naples pizza-making family, makes the pizza, and the restaurant carries on the Starita family's Neapolitan tradition. It ranked in the top five on the 2026 U.S. list from 50 Top Pizza, and in 2025 The Best Pizza Awards placed Caporuscio at No. 52 in the world.

It is a sensible choice if you are staying in Midtown and want Neapolitan pizza without a trip downtown. We rate the price level at $$, and the menu changes, so check it before you go.

Slices and Squares

New York's slice culture is its own tradition, with thin folding slices at one end and thick squares at the other. These three restaurants show both.

L'Industrie

L'Industrie has locations in Williamsburg, the West Village and Little Italy, and it ranked No. 1 on 50 Top Pizza's U.S. slice list in 2026. Massimo Laveglia runs it, and in 2025 The Best Pizza Awards named him the world's best for street pizza. The Infatuation notes that it prioritizes ingredients imported from Italy.

The slices are thin and crisp, with a crust that ferments for three days, according to Complex. Newsweek singles out creamy burrata and pepperoni finished with hot honey, and the menu also includes whole pies. Time Out rates the price level at $$.

Mama's TOO!

Mama's TOO! is at 2750 Broadway on the Upper West Side and has a second location in the West Village. It makes thick, airy square slices cooked in a gas oven, and The Infatuation says people travel for the cold-weather squares. In 2026 it placed among the top three on the U.S. slice list.

The signature order is the Cacio e Pepe slice, with mascarpone, aged mozzarella and a layer of Pecorino Romano and Parmigiano Reggiano, which Time Out named No. 1 on its 2026 list of the world's best pizza. Expect a line during peak hours.

L&B Spumoni Gardens

L&B Spumoni Gardens opened in 1939 in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, and now also has a location in Dumbo. The reason to go is the Sicilian square, a thick, soft pizza with cheese under the sauce. Families have made the trip for generations, and Newsweek notes that most people finish with spumoni, the frozen dessert that gave the place half its name.

Time Out rates it $, and it is one of the least expensive places in this guide. It is also one of the best choices if you want to eat with a group.

A Brick Oven in Brooklyn

Lucali

Lucali is at 575 Henry Street in Carroll Gardens. Mark Iacono opened it in 2006 in a former candy store, and it seats about 30 people. The menu is almost nothing but a pizza and a calzone, with an occasional special, and the pies are baked in a brick oven in the middle of the room.

Time Out lists a large pie at $32 and calzones at $19 and $29, with toppings costing extra. The restaurant is cash only and BYOB, and it does not take reservations, so The Infatuation says to line up in the afternoon. The Best Pizza Awards ranked Iacono No. 25 in the world in 2025.
